The older I get, the more I love products that do two things rather than one. They save time and money. There are lots of products that claim to do multiple things but not many that deliver. Recently I’ve come across a few stand outs that do what they say and make for fewer steps in my morning makeup routine getting me out the door faster. Can I get an Amen?
Blemish Concealer That Treats And Prevents Breakouts
I effing HATE zits. They hurt, they look gross, and take a while to disappear because I cover them with more makeup -sometimes drawing more attention. Like the worst, right?! So I used to have a routine of product layering (salicylic acid, concealer, foundation, setting powder, setting spray -I know how insane it sounds) to cover them up. Lately, I have been really liking Bare Minerals Blemish Rescue Spot Concealer. Here’s an excerpt from Sephora’s description:
– Salicylic Acid: Helps reduce the appearance of blemishes.
– Mushroom Stem and Licorice Root Extract: Provides soothing properties and helps fade the appearance of post-acne scars.
– Phytosphingosine: Supports skin’s defenses against bacteria.
I skip a couple of steps in my typical ridiculous pimple covering operation making me fell less like a psycho and helps the blemish disappear faster. Get it here.
SPF, Moisturizer & Foundation
I am probably going to catch some backlash for this, but I hate foundations with face sunscreen and even worse, I double hate applying a separate sunscreen on my face. I always feel so freaking greasy, so I usually end up wearing a hat of some kind when I’m in the sun rather than risking my makeup sliding off. Having said all that, I have used up half a bottle of Tarte Foundcealer multitasking foundation this summer already. This is what it does:
helps hydrate & give the appearance of plumper skin while minimizing the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles
protects skin with SPF 20 (which is essential, rain or shine!)
formulated with nourishing superbalm babassu, essential fatty acids & antioxidants

The coverage is buildable and the finish is radiant -glowy, not greasy. Plus this product is vegan which is always cool. Another plus for Foundcealer is the packaging. It’s GENIUS. The pump twists up to dispense and twists down when you’re finished making it perfect for traveling with. Check it out here.
Anti-Aging Serum & Illuminating Primer
You guys, This may be my favorite product of the year. I use it every damn day and still have more than half of the bottle filled with the magic potion. The brand is GOOP approved so that is extra cool. HEre’s an excerpt from Goop.com:
Moisturize, exfoliate, and brighten skin with this all-in-one serum/primer that leaves skin instantly radiant. Five lightweight hydrators—hyaluronic acid, olive-fruit oil, linoleic acid, coconut, and squalane—combine with vitamin C, bearberry leaf, and licorice root extract. At the same time, gentle azelaic, glycolic, and lactic acids work together to delicately exfoliate skin. The super-nourishing ingredients give you a natural glow that’s amazing on its own, though it’s also brilliant under makeup.

Alpyn is my favorite skincare brand (Check out my review of their eye cream here). The products aren’t outrageously priced, the ingredients are pure, the packaging is SO good and they make everything look more ethereal. The serum is lightweight and sinks right into the skin leaving behind this almost holographic rose gold light. I mean this in the best way possible. My skin glows from underneath foundation with this stuff. Fine lines and imperfections are literally blurred by the light reflecting serum. Just a resounding YES from me. One product rather than a separate serum, primer and illuminator. Get it here.
