*Hot Tip* Apply products from thin to thick consistency. The order you put products on is critical in how effective your skincare works. Thick products create a barrier on your skin making it difficult for anything to penetrate. If you apply a serum over a heavy cream, it won’t reach your skin and you’re basically wasting your money. Applying heavier creams last will seal in your actives and serums so they can work without disruption and protect the skin.
Morning
Tone
Since my face isn’t dirty in the morning, but it is a little oily from my night cream. I use witch hazel. It’s cheap and it works. Witch hazel cuts through oil and is not drying. This one is less ten bucks and smells like roses.
Serum
This is where I splurge. Serum permeates the skin deeper to deliver active ingredients more efficiently. In other words, serum is the MVP in my routine by plumping, treating, boosting collagen and increasing cell turnover. As you age cell turnover slows down, so give me allllll the serums. This one by 37 Actives is definitely a splurge but I can see and feel a difference in my skin since I’ve started using it. It’s hydrating (not greasy) so some days I don’t need a separate moisturizer. I only use a pea size amount so it lasts #wortheverypenny. If you want something around the $100 price point, I absolutely love this one by Tata Harper. Works very well and smells incredible. If you are looking for a drugstore option, this one by Neutrogena is my pick.
Eye Treatment
I feel like a great eye cream is like great jeans. So hard to find, but there’s nothing better than putting on that perfect fit. For mornings, I love this one by Clarins because it makes the skin around my feel tight and wide awake. Perfect for morning.
Moisture
I need a skin softening moisturizer that is not at all greasy. I do not want my makeup sliding off my face throughout the day. I have yet to find a better moisturizer than this one by Alpyn Beauty. It literally melts into the skin and jest leaves it feeling bouncy. I don’t need a makeup primer when this is on my face. Alsoooo, it has the coveted GOOP’s seal of approval so there’s that.
Night
Micellar Water
I wear bulletproof makeup. Having said that, taking it off can sometimes be a process. I use this micellar cleansing water. It takes off waterproof makeup and baked on under eye concealer in a swipe.
Scrub & Cleanse
In the shower, I love a scrub. I don’t want my skin’s protective barrier disrupted, so it needs to be a gentle exfoliating cleanser. The UnScrub by Paula’s Choice is a holy grail product. My skin feel so clean -not stripped.
Serum
I use serum morning and night (see above for my picks)
Eye Treatment
For evening, I like a more creamy eye product. This one by Alpyn is incredible. It plumps and protects the delicate skin around the eyes. It’s definitely more of a balm than a cream. It will last forever because a little goes a long way. Alpyn is one of my favorite skincare brands, Their products are plant derived, cruelty free and reasonably priced. The packaging is beautiful too 😉
Night Cream or Oil
This one by StriVectin is my favorite. It’s super potent and delivers visible results. My forehead fine lines were less noticeable after a few uses. It’s my splurge pick but it’s still under $100. If it’s a hormonal week for me, my skin tends to get angry and sensitive, so I dial it back on the retinol which can sometimes aggravate it. I use this Deep Sleep Recovery cream by H2O+ and it’s a bit gentler while still delivering results.
