That post title rhymes.
I want to share with you this very important information. I have discovered the perfect little black dress and you need to know about it. There are few things that I’m forever searching for. Jeans that make my butt look great (still looking, will report back), the ideal nude lipstick (I have to mix color always), a hairstyle that compliments my round face (send me pics if you know of any) and the perfect LBD.
The qualities I need for the dress to be perfect (in no particular order):
- High quality
- Versatile
- Comfortable
- Fit
Many dresses had 1/4 of these. Some had 2/4. I’ve had a few contenders that have hit the 3/4 mark but fell short of perfect. Then I found the Marisa dress from Pirouette NYC. Pirouette is a female founded company geared toward the woman who does it all. We have been wanting to work together on a post about their brand for over a year. Their company was just getting off the ground and the timing wasn’t perfect for either of us. This summer, we finally made it happen (I was not paid to write this post). Here’s an excerpt from their website describing the brand:
By using only the highest grade Italian, Japanese, and Korean fabrics and working with New York City’s Garment District artisans, we create small batches of reasonably priced pieces that feature everything a woman needs and wants, from invisible pockets and stretchy materials to hidden zippers and removable tops. The result is a capsule collection of must-haves designed with the insight of an array of women who prioritize quality over quantity and sustainability over trends.
The Marisa dress passed my 4/4 test.
- Quality: The dress is wrinkle resistant, made from super-high end fabric. The fabric is soft but thick and sturdy. It feels well made. It held its shape after a few very long wears. I know this dress will last for years.
- Versatile: No lie, I wore this to a night-time wedding, to teach kindergarten, and to New York Fashion Week. If that’s not a wide range, I don’t know what is!! There is a zipper slit that controls how modest or sexy you want the dress to be. It comes with a removable silk top in the color or print of your choice.
- Comfort: The material is smooth and stretchy but still thick enough that I felt supported while wearing.
- Fit: The classic shape is fitted but not too tight creating a smooth silhouette. The straps are wide enough so there is no bra strap peek-a-boo. The seaming is super-flattering and the hem hits a couple of inches about the knee.
I don’t usually spend more than $100 on trendy pieces or items I’ll only wear once or twice. Well-made timeless pieces are worth paying a little more for (think nude pumps, a black leather jacket, etc). This dress will live in my closet for a very long time. It is well worth the $230 price tag.
Here’s how I styled the dress when I was heading to my friend’s wedding. My hair was down and styled in loose waves with a smokey eye and nude lip. The slit was unzipped 🙂
I layered the Soho top that it came with for back to school night. I pulled my hair into a low chignon and kept the makeup simple.
I rocked top with a pair of black split knee leggings, my new studded YSL bag and my favorite black pumps to the Romeo Hunte show for New York Fashion Week.
