The weather in Connecticut has been crazy lately! A few days last week, temps were in the 70’s. In February. Being a teacher, we had the week off for winter break so needless to say, we spend a good deal of time outside soaking it all up! The warm snap gave me such spring fever…and that feeling that it was about time I start working on that summer body goal. Aside from the unseasonable temp, nothing kicks me into high gear at the gym like new workout clothes.
BoomBoom Athletica sent me some goodies to test out and report back to you. Before I delve into the deets, I have to say that I’ve never worn such high performance activewear before. I usually throw on a cheap tank and a pair of leggings when I race to the gym. Well, this stuff may have ruined me. I used to think “Why am I going to spend money on gym clothes if I’m just going to sweat in them?!”. Then I received a box of high end workout gear and now I don’t know if I could go back to my old ways.
Turns out, wearing garments made for working out wick away sweat and support the body during exercise thus enhancing the experience. And they look fabulous too -that never hurts right? I had a different mind state wearing BoomBoom.
What makes this brand different from all of the others out there?
I’ll let the peeps at BoomBoom tell you in their own words. Here’s an excerpt from their website:
Founded by Ann Johansson, a Swedish/Canadian ultra-marathon runner and gym fanatic, BoomBoom Athletica infuses professional quality activewear with cutting-edge style for women seeking a confidant alternative to large brands.
Frustrated with choosing between stylish OR functional activewear, Ann commissioned custom garments for herself using luxurious European fabrics and specialist EU factories. Overwhelmingly positive feedback from athletes and friends led to the establishment of BoomBoom Athletica as a brand.
You guys know I love a brand with some Girl Power! Ann sounds like my kind of chick #BadAss.
The zip up in the above photos has cool thumb holes built into the sleeves. I loooove lifting weights at the gym, but don’t love wearing gloves. This zip up saved my hands through my dead lifts. The fabric was thicker on top of the shoulders which at first I didn’t understand why. Then I began my squat set and realized that the extra padding prevented my shoulders from getting broken blood vessels like usual. The jacket is long and fitted. It moved with my and didn’t get that weird zipper pop out when I sat down or bent over. The front zipped up very high which is great for cool weather running.
The brand puts out great sports bras too. I have the Mesh Bra and the Boom Bra. The Mesh has thick cross back straps. The Boom comes in a few colors and is two bras in one. Both are high impact (really supportive) but neither felt too constrictive. These look great alone or peeking out from under a loose or open back tank.
The compression pants had mesh inserts which kept me supported and cool at the same time. The mesh was reinforced at the seams so the fit felt sturdy. These pants feel secure yet breathable. They’re compression so of course they’re tighter than usual but not at all uncomfortable. They don’t give a muffin top which is always a win. The fabric is smooth and matte. My legs felt jiggle free (which is a huge change from regular cotton leggings).
The long sleeve “Easy Tunic”also has mesh inserts and thumb holes. The fabric is so lightweight! I really love how comfy but stylish this top is. I could wear it to the gym, running errands or even with jeans. It’s very versatile.
Head over to BoomBoom Athletica to check out some more high performance activewear.
