I don’t know about you guys, but I love wedding season! I am a hopeless romantic. I cry at every wedding I go to. I love seeing the couple’s personality come through in all of the details, from the color palette to the music choices. Being a guest at a wedding is much easier than planning one. It’s so much fun to do, but it can be a bit stressful to choose EVERY detail. It can be even more stressful when you are paying for every detail (Psssst, see our wedding details here).
When my cousin asked me to make her wedding card box, I jumped at the chance. She wanted the box to be pretty big because she had lots of guests and there really isn’t much out there in a moderate price range. Many of them were stark white or too gaudy. She wanted a specific shade of violet and some bling. This is what I came up with…
I bought a large decorative box from Michael’s Crafts for $15.
Marked off a thin rectangle to place where the cards will drop in, then I carefully cut it out.
I painted a coat of white to act as a primer and cover up the print so there wouldn’t be any show-through when I painted with the color.
Once that was dry, I painted two thin coats of violet. Anddddd spilled some on our rug. Don’t tell my husband 😉 A little Fantastik spray and I was back in business.
Once the paint was dry, I used self adhesive rhinestone strips (also from Michael’s) to make a nice clean border.
I found this self adhesive rhinestone monogram sticker at Michael’s for a whopping two bucks, making this whole project (from the box, to the paint and rhinestones) a grand total of around $25. Not bad.
So go ahead and pin this to your “Wedding D-I-Y” board or email it to your favorite bride-to-be 🙂
