I have seen the sharpie mug do-it-yourself project on Pinterest more than I care to admit. So, why am I posting it here? Because the first time I tried making these, it was a fail. The marker washed right off. Womp womp womp… Don’t worry! This project doesn’t have to be a Pinterest bust! All you need to do is use an oil based sharpie paint marker. I happened to have a few lying around my house.
They’re different from plain old Sharpies (which are water based). When these are baked onto your mug, it should not wash off.
I hit up the dollar store for these cute mugs. I made sure they were microwave and dishwasher safe.
Write a name, a message, or draw on a design in OIL BASED paint markers (or porcelain pens if you have them) and bake for 20 minutes at 350 F.
These are adorable and can be perfect last minute (but still thoughtful because they’re personalized) gifts. You can fill them with candy, teabags, hot cocoa mix or add in a gift card.
