Cleaning is not my favorite thing. It’s not even on my top ten. Or top 1,000. Which I why I feel that Hell is freezing over…
I made a weekly house cleaning schedule.

(falls to the floor)
I used to be the kid that had an avalanche warning sign on her closet door. Not joking. So this list is a huge deal.
Since we moved into our house 3 1/2 years ago, we kind of took care of chores as we needed to. Some things consistently fell through the cracks (vacuuming under the couch, cleaning window sills, organizing closets…). Chores like these became a source of wars disagreements between Mr Clean Mr FSL and Pigsty myself. Honestly when life started to get busy, it seemed like everything piled up at once and it left me feeling very overwhelmed. Mr FSL mentioned a weekly list like 2 years ago and I procrastinated like it was my job um forgot about it.
Ironically, as somebody that is extremely scatterbrained and discombobulated, clutter and disorganization give me anxiety. I literally sleep better when things are orderly and neat.
I figured if I chip away at it for like 30 minutes a day, these things I dread and let pile up can actually get done with minimal pain.
Here’s what I came up with:
Monday
• Wash whites
• Empty dishwasher
Tuesday
• Bathrooms
• Dust downstairs
• Clean stairs area
Wednesday
• Sweep common area floors
• Organize one closet or cabinet
Thursday
• Sort through fridge
• Windows & glass doors
Friday
• Organize toys
• Dust bedrooms
• Wash Max’s clothes
Saturday
• Wash sheets
• Vacuum upstairs
• dust kitchen & dining area
Sunday
• Vacuum downstairs
• Wash common area floors (upstairs 3 weeks, downstairs 1 week)
• Wash colored clothes
I kept the load lighter on days that I have grad class or meetings.
Do you have an organized method to housecleaning?
