If you follow homey, crafty, DIYish blogs, I’m sure you have heard of John and Sherry of Young House Love. If you follow along here on this blog, you know I’m obsessed I read YHL. You probably also know that they wrote a book and are on a book signing tour. Well yours truly has officially reached stalker status. Let me explain…
A couple of weeks ago, Hurricane Sandy hit my home town in CT. We had no power (or heat) for 5 days. The first 2 nights without heat werent bad since the temps were in the mid 60s. Midnight feedings and diaper changes weren’t too fun with no microwave to heat Max’s bottle and butt-wiping by a camping lantern. Once I couldn’t take it anymore and it was getting too chilly in our house, Mr. FSL, baby Max, Rocco & I camped out at my mother’s house. When I say camped out, I mean living out of a bag and crashing on the floor .
Somehow, this extreme condition didn’t prevent me from going to the book signing…priorities ya know 😉 Max & Rocco visited their grandmother (with heat and a generator), Mr. FSL went to work, and my cousin and I hopped in the car and headed to Wilton Library.
My family is known for 2 things. Being late to everything and having no sense of direction. This adventure was no exception. I popped in the navigation and somehow, minutes later we ended up back near our house. For real. We finally arrived at our destination 45 minutes after that 🙂 Better late than never! We did end up in the cheap seats, but we were still there nonetheless.
They spoke about lots of DIY related topics from painting to tiling. What I thought was most important though was about not being afraid to make mistakes and not being afraid to try. Jeez, that’s my philosophy! If you’ve ever been in trouble for painting your lawn blue, while spray painting your craigslist find, it’s reassuring coming from these guys.
They answered a ton of questions. I wanted to ask how they managed to blog and tackle projects when Clara was a newborn. I don’t know what came over me, but I was too nervous to raise my hand! I felt like the nerdy shy kid in the third grade that couldn’t wave hi to her crush. I am a freakin chatterbox. Shy is not part of my DNA! I was star struck. Such a weirdo.
Anyway, it was time to have our books signed. We waited in line for a while. I ended up meeting some really nice people. We talked in line about Hurricane Sandy and about our kids and showed each other proud mommy pics. It was my first time leaving Max, so it was nice to talk to other moms that have been there. It calmed my anxiety a little. After the signing, I was checkin out Instagram and saw YHL posted a pic of Sherry, Clara and the girl I was talking to in line!
Turns out, she interviewed the DIY duo after the signing. They also follow her blog. If you want to check out Roo’s blog, head over to Nice Girl Notes. She’s hysterical and from the next town over (small world!) and my new blog crush.
When it was finally my turn to get my book signed I got really awkward and all “Oh my GAH! I love you guys! I’m a baby blogger, well I don’t blog about babies, except Max who I left home for the first time, well I didn’t leave him home cuz we are staying at my mom’s because we have no power…I’m not a baby blogger I mean my blog is small compared to your blog! I basically rambled something like that all in one breath while smiling like Buddy the elf (I love smiling! Smiling’s my favorite!).
I made my cousin take like 3 pictures. I announced that my smile was probably so big you could see my molars (see first photo in this post) I guess that’s my excited cheese. Sherry though that was funny. At least somebody got some humor out of my crazy awkward creepiness.
Seriously though, they were very cool and seemed super genuine just like they come across on their blog. Very down to earth. I think they actually understood some of my speed-talking jibberish because I got this tweet later on…
Woot Woot! Even Max got a YHL shot out! He was so pumped he got all Lil Jon when I told him.
Word Max. Word.
Have any of you ever met your blog crush in real life? Did you get super uncomfortable and weird? What the heck is wrong with me lol?

Mindy! you are funny! I’m glad you had fun! xo

You are too funny!
I was supposed to go to their Chicago signing but I was sick. Bummer.
Max is probably one of the cutest babies ever. And I’m not one of those people that thinks all babies are cute. Yours, however. Darling.
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
Glad you’re feeling better! Chicago signing was probably a zoo anyway. Plus you are their blog buddy! I am still psyched that you got featured on YHL! That’s better than getting a book signed.
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
Max says thanks 🙂

I met them when they came to NJ, and they totally made me nervous too! I didn’t even officially introduce myself (or my husband! ha, poor guy). Yeah, it totally turned me into a little bit of a weirdo too. I’m glad I wasn’t the only one 🙂 But, how sweet are they? Nicest people ever.
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
Yes! Love them!! They were even cooler than I was expecting

I love this post..it was a fun day!! I still don’t like that awful pic of me though 🙁 It seems to be popping up everywhere lol
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
You look pretty! At least you can’t see your tonsils like me…

I went and saw them in Boston and I too was awestruck. My sister didn’t understand why I was getting nervous! Glad I wasn’t the only one!
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
Haha nope! You’re not alone 😉
