It’s no secret that I am obsessed with enjoy reading Young House Love and Bower Power. Both D-I-Y home and family blogs are endlessly inspiring for any creative do-it-yourselfer. Yes that’s a word. I think. Last week they both posted about a Pinterest challenge to recreate something you were inspired by (and pinned) from Pinterest. Yeah, I’ve been on a Pinterest bender for like, a year. I have a problem. Most people, myself included, pin a zillion things and never end up actually recreating many of those pins. This challenge was just what I was waiting for.
I’ve been seeing lots of nautical rope mirrors lately. Most of them cost a pretty good chunk of change. Particularly this bad boy from Restoration Hardware.
All RH stuff is gorgeous and so my taste, but unfortunately, I’m not coughing up the $650 for something I can make myself.
You guys know that I love me some texture. This projects reminded me of the jute-wrapped wine bottles and the jute wrapped wreath projects from the past. This one was right up my alley!
It took me about an hour or so from start to finish. It will probably take you less time. I’m almost 7 months pregnant and it was about 95 degrees out that day. Oh, my poor neighbors!
I’m so not normal, lol!
Here’s what I needed to make my version:
* a spool of jute rope ( I used this )
* a mirror
Here’s what I did:
Set the old mirror on a flat surface & plug in the hot glue gun
Get your rope ready. I bought a spool of sisal rope. I like the rough texture of it.
Snip the end of the rope so it’s slanted. This will help the rope look flush when you start gluing.
Glue the rope on the inner rim of the mirror, then begin working your way around the exterior circle one row at a time.
Glue each row as close to the previous one as possible. Keep on going…this part will take a little while.
Once you’re finished, wait a few extra minutes to be sure that the glue has set.
Choose the perfect spot for your new & improved mirror!
The added pop of texture is a nice touch to any space.
Thanks for checking out my Pinterest Challenge project! Now get pinning!
What’s your favorite project you have pinned and have been dying to tackle? Spill it!
