I am short and quite curvy so long dresses usually aren’t my thing. But with the new wardrobe addition *cough cough* (compression pantyhose) short dresses aren’t as, um, appealing lately. So I basically bought out the maxi dress departments of Banana Republic, Pacific Sunwear, Gap, and Joyce Leslie.
I’ve been wearing loose shirts to play down “the girls” and bump at work. At almost 6 moths preggo, there aren’t many other options but to rock the bump as summer gets closer. I have so many bridal and baby showers coming up that will require some sort of cute outfit AKA not the cotton tank, pj shorts, and thigh high compression hose ensemble I’ve been loving at home…trust me people, it’s as hot as it sounds 😉
Here’s my fitting room adventure at one store:
I didn’t end up with this dress because it made me look in between chubby and hiding a baby bump. I love the colors and soft fabric, but I’ve got to commit to either camouflage or sporting the bump. No in between. This one went back on the rack.
This dress is also stripey. I guess I’m diggin’ stripes these days. I really like this one because the fabric is super-lightweight and very stretchy so I have room to grow. I actually look pregnant in it which is a bonus compared to the lumpiness I saw previously (see above photo). The only drawback is the fact that there is a ditch where my belly button is, hence the facial expression. I figure my belly button will be smoothed out in the very near future, so I bought this one.
I’m on the hunt for a plain long black dress. There is one at Target that they only sell in stores and are sold out of my size in every store within 100 miles. Figures. I was so sad about that dress until I found this one!
Cut to 1 minute and 34 seconds later under the sexy fluorescent lights…
Yea, not so cute with a zebra print bra. Perhaps if I was Lady Gaga, I’d wear one of these bad boys underneath.
Why this store sell these things, I’m still not sure, but I’d like to meet the person that owns a spikey bra/corset contraption. Needless to say, the see through black dress and the metal spikes sadly didn’t make the cut.
This dress is on the fitted side, so I’d have to wear a scarf of some kind to mask these warlocks. I still like the colors & pattern. But mostly, I like the how perfectly round my bump is in this dress 🙂 I don’t care if I look like an optical illusion, at $15, I bought it. *smug smile*
Up next is this navy & grey striped number. It’s pretty much the perfect dress. Soft, comfy, casual-but-still-pulled-together-if-worn-with-the-right-accessories. Sold.
What trends are you loving at the moment? Which dress is your fave? Do you own a spiked bra?
You look great in these dresses! I too have been embracing the maxi. I’m only 5’3 but decided that since my baby bump is my newest accessory, maxi dresses would look the best and be the most comfortable. I also just bought a pair of mint green shorts. Never used to wear the colored denim, but decided why not!
The closest thing I have to a spiked bra is a bra with the underwire poking out 🙂
Bahahah! I have a bra like that lol! I’m 5’2″ so I hear ya sister. Don’t fight it. Rock the bump!
optical illusion or not I LOVE IT
You look GREAT gf, big hugs
Leila
Thanks Leila!! LOL!
I only like wearing my spiked bra to the grocery store. 😉
That last dress is adorable. I have a hard time finding maxis that don’t make me look lumpy too and who wants to wear spanx all summer long? NOT ME. But you look adorable in the last one, and I like the geometric one too!
Hahaha! Where do you go grocery shopping so I can see those spikes?! Lol!
I love the blk/blue one the best! but you look BEAUTIFUL in all of them! I bet they are comfortable!
Yes! All so comfy.
You look great! I love maxi dresses, but I’m sort of tall and they usually hit me just above the ankle. Dang.
Lucky! I have to hem everything.
I bought my first maxi skirt last week. I always felt like they made me look shorter so I have avoided them. And then I tried one on and they are so darn comfy!
You’re the cutests prego ever. Seriously. Way to rock the bump.
That’s why I avoided them too. However, they’re the only things that cover my entire body while still saying summer lol
Oh my gosh. You look so dang adorable pregnant–I love it! And I wonder if you could find a metal spike nursing bra, so you can still look just as chic and gaga-ish after sweet baby arrives . . . 😉
Bahahahah!
your bump came out of nowhere!
I know! It’s not up to me anymore! This kid is running the show around here. Miss you 🙁
I’m 5’2″ and I didn’t think I could pull off a maxi dress butI found two at Old Navy that I loveee and that’s all I want to wear now. I’m even looking into maxi skirts now!
PS – Your baby bump is adorable 🙂
