So much for this NOT turning into a baby blog…
Summer is coming and after that comes baby. I don’t know if it’s too early for nesting mode, but it’s happening. I’m fairly certain we are team green (unless eye spy boy parts or girl parts at our “big ultrasound” on 5/30). So I am facing the challenge of designing a gender neutral nursery. It’s not that easy. I feel like everything is either laced with princess crowns or puppies! I am going for something that flows with the rest of our house (natural color palette) and when the baby gets big enough to voice his or her own opinion, I can easily swap out the nursery rug or artwork and put it in another room.
I made a base moodboard and 2 other versions of it that I added boyish or girlish touches for after Baby P arrives.
Base:
1. Color palette of natural brown, white and ivory
2. The convertible crib I registered for (Graco Shelby in cappuccino)
3. A soft & cozy glider with washable/removable cushion covers
4. Pendant light from LampsPlus.com
5. The Ivory Trellis Rug I’ve been drooling over for months from Restoration Hardware (at a surprisingly reasonable price)
6. All white bedding
7. Gold Love prints by Jen Ramos
8. Cream paper pouf ceiling decor
9. Cream colored plush lamb
10. Greenery 🙂
Simple changes in the tissue pom color, toss pillow & curtains add pops of color and some personality to the baby’s new home.
If we have a boy:
If we have a girl:
What do you guys think?
Mindy i love your choices! they all look beautiful.
Thanks!! This summer is going to fun with all the decorating going on!!
I truly love this!!! All too often I think people go a little too crazy with the pink, or blue, or greens etc when prepping for a baby. I see how it happens because let’s face it when you find out you’re totally excited and you go into BUY ALL THE PINK/BLUE THINGS MODE! But I love the idea of a natural color scheme and dressing it up with specific colors when he or she is born and you know. I also like that you plan to take items the baby is over when he/she is old enough and putting them around the house. LOVE it! Reduce and reuse girl, well done! And may I say Nautical for a boy = LOVE LOVE, LOVE!
Thanks Kelly! I agree with you. People do go a little nuts with the pink or blue. It’s hard when you look for nursery decor because verything is too cutesy and either all pink or all blue or covered in dolls or tractors. Like Ron Burgundy says “Stay classy” 😉
You know me, I’m all for repurposing!
LOVE them all, I do think your base color is the perfect idea, then being able to add pops of color, Mindy my GF you are brilliant!!!
Hugs Leila
Thank Leila 🙂 I just couldn’t bring myself to do a yellow & green nursery with ducks and farm animals LOL!
Ohhhh,….I love it…great idea and it looks beautiful. Easily can convert to girl or boy scheme and not be overbearing. Beautiful, good job Mindy xo
Thanks for your input Chele!

I love them both! Especially because they don’t scream “baby”. This will be a room he/she can grow up in 🙂
Thanks Carrie 🙂 I’ve seen some of your home decor choices & it means a lot coming from you. Thanks for stopping by.
I really like your plans…a lot. Some nurseries make me want to puke. Yours looks all stylish! Good plans. Good plans!
Thanks Michelle! I totally agree. Some nurseries look like the room threw up all pink or all blue. Some leave no room to grow.
I like where you are going with this. We have that same plush lamb with a built in white noise player. It plays sounds of the ocean or rain and it really helps lull our daughter (also Lisa) right to sleep. Not sure where we got it. If you’re interested, I’ll ask Lisa for you.
Thanks John! Yes, the plush lamb is on Amazon & Babies R Us (my mom already picked one up 😀 ). Glad to hear that it’s worth having!!
So great! I love the crib, so pretty and unique.
Thanks Kim! I was in love with a crib at Restoration Hardware with the same unique wood stain that was $1200! I found this guy for $1,000 cheaper!!! Score!
I love them both – but I’m sort of hoping you have a girl so you can get those ruffle curtains! They’re wonderful!
I loooove the curtains too! That’s my favorite part!
