I am stalling. I read book 1 of Fifty Shades of Grey in a week. Book 2 in a few days. I’ve been reading book 3 in dribs and drabs. I feel like I don’t want it to end. What will I read next that will suck me in like these 2 characters have? Does anyone have any suggestions?
I’ve recently discovered that I do this with lots of things that I really love. My quest for justifying my hoarding tendencies knows no boundaries. I’m not sure if I do this because the things are luxuries and I want to make it last or because I don’t know when I will have spare time or cash to buy it again. Psychology majors please give me your opinions…
Exhibit A:
Makeup primer. I “save” the last few applications for “special occasions” and I never end up using it. I guess I outed myself. I am addicted to high-end makeup. I’ve got to admit I have gotten a lot better with curbing my impulse shopping in Sephora and Ulta. I think this may be fueling my hoarding issue too though.
Exhibit B:
Hair products. I “save” the last drop of BioSilk for that elusive “special occasion”.
Exhibit C:
Bottles of alcohol. We saved our expensive bottle of tequila for a year before we drank it. I have a few very nice bottles of champagne that we are waiting for, wait for it….that special occasion. Yes, Mr. FSL & I “collect” odd-shaped bottles of liquor. We are weirdos, I won’t argue with you on that one.
Am I alone on this one? Is anyone else weird like me?
Lisa says
I do it too! As you get older though, you do it less. You don’t save like before. Just use it! everday is a special occasion!

I hear ya, girl. I don’t save expensive stuff (mostly because I’m too broke in the first place to buy it) but in December I subscribed to Birchbox– please tell me you’ve heard of it!!– and I save a lot of the sample size stuff for…. Er, I don’t know. Ha! I do know I’m going to take a bunch of them to the beach with me in a few weeks, I guess I just didn’t want to waste them! Also, the most expensive bottle of wine I have was a gift from over a year ago and I’m saving it… For something… I don’t know what either! Funny thing is, this bottle of wine only costs probably 20 bucks. I figure it’ll be a treat compared to my seven dollar bottles of yellow tail Pinot grigio.

Yep! I’ve heard of Birchbox. I’m glad I’m not alone on this one 😉
Priscilla says
LOL! Nope, not alone about “saving” things because, like you said, you don’t know when you might need it again. I wonder if it’s not a trait learned from family members that went through the Depression and somehow got stuck in people’s current brains…to save and to hold onto it…because you might be able to do something with it and/or use it later. Something like that. It sounds ok. I listen to my great-grandma talk about the Depression and how they didn’t have this or that, and how they used this and that, so I blame my collecting tendencies on her. LOL! I figure if I have to be named after her, I can blame her.

I like that idea! Very philisophical. I’m diggin it!

Ashley@DesignBuildLove says
You are definitely not alone! In fact, i have that exact SAME bottle of BioSilk and it has only drops left that i am, yes, saving for that special occasion too!!!

I am only in the beginning of book 2 and I am already trying to read “just a little bit” because you are like the 5th person that has said they are only reading one chapter at at time of book 3 so it won’t end 🙂 If you like stories that span generations, try Fern Michaels. One of the best “series” I have ever read. Start with the Texas series, Rich, Heat, Fury and Sunrise, then the Vegas series, Rich, Heat and Sunrise and finally the Kentucky series, Rich, Heat and Sunrise. In that order. The characters span generations. One of my favorites of all time. I think I am going to go back and read them all over again since it’s been a while. Oh, and thanks for the pic of the Biosilk…I am going to give it a try. xoxo

Tanks for the book suggestions! Yes, Just a drop of Biosilk before blowdrying makes it so soft & shiny!
Cheryl Star says
Biosilk i love that stuff, ive been able to keep the bottle i have forever since you only need a tiny bit because it can appear greasy if to much is used.
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
Yep me too. This bottle is a relic!
Cheryl Star says
Also have you tried Urban Decay’s eye primer? Its the best! Keeps eyeshadow on for hours without creasing.
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
Yes I have 🙂
