After a few people mentioned it to me, I’ve decided to just catch up with my pregnancy weeks. I’ll be posting last week and this week’s photos. LOL! Sorry for the confusion, but between not sleeping from the Rocco incident, an exhausting field trip to NYC (I got motion sickness for the first time in 4 hours of traffic), and hanging my school’s artwork at our citywide art show last night immediately following a workday with no prep time, and throw my baby brain into the mix, you can surely understand why I’m a little, uh, off.
16 Weeks
My pants wouldn’t zip at 16 weeks, hence the open fly 😛
Baby was the size of an avocado
- It’s listening to my voice, thanks to tiny bones forming in its ears.
- It’s growing hair, lashes and eyebrows.
- And it’s forming taste buds.
I’m not sure what the heck happened between last week and this week, but I have a real bump now!
Week 17
How I’m feeling: Working out regularly (light weights and cardio). I’ve been getting out of breath going up stairs. Sciatic nerve pain is on and off, but when I was on a bus (for a field trip for 4 hours) my left leg went numb. I also had motion sickness on the bus and had to put myself to sleep so I wouldn’t vomit. I’m uncomfortable when I sleep, so I believe that this is the week I finally buy the maternity body pillow! The bump is bigger I’m still wearing regular clothes, but my pants are not buttoning anymore (not even with my special hair tie trick). I’ve moved on to the Bella Band. It looks like a tube top that fits over your unbuttoned pants (and kind of holds them up). It looks like a tank top layer (I am wearing one in the week 17 photos).
New and exciting: Baby is very active at night. It’s really the only time I feel it move. I also placed an order for my first 2 pairs of maternity jeans from Old Navy.
Weird Stuff: Besides everything physically, I have really been experiencing what I used to think was a myth. Baby brain. Yes people, this is real. Okay, here. I woke up for work last week like normal. I got dressed, ate breakfast, headed to the garage keys in hand. I stepped one foot onto the cold concrete… hmmm…yes, shoes. Shoes would be helpful at work today Mindy. *smacks herself in the forehead*
Cravings: Lots of the same stuff. Tomato sauce, vinegar, cold red grapes, frozen yogurt or sorbet , ice cold milk in Cheerios
Aversions: asparagus (still), ice water
Baby is the size of:
- Baby is growing some meat on those bones — putting on some fat.
- Its rubbery cartilage is now turning to bone.
- It’s growing a stronger, thicker umbilical cord, too.

Look how cute your baby bump is!! Sometimes I feel like I look like I have a legitimate bump before I go to bed, but in the morning my stomach just looks like it has a little extra padding 🙂 I feel like I’ve spent the first 15 weeks of the pregnancy wanting to hurry it along so I look pregnant and I’m sure by week 30 I’ll be saying sloooooow down!!!
This week I’ve been craving strawberries, pineapple, and cereal. I also saw a commercial for sangria…oh how I miss that!

I hear ya! It’s frozen margarita season 🙁
I had the same thing going on with the extra padding and no bump during the day. Week 17, practically overnight I woke up with a buddha belly!
