So yeah, we’re having a baby. It’s the biggest happiest news you’ll ever announce to your friends & family. Here’s how we announced our big surprise.
Ideally, we wanted to wait until I was at least 10 weeks to tell anyone. Ideally. We found out I was pregnant 2 days before our Utah ski trip.
Our parents
We went to both houses and showed them photos of my friend Lindsey (her new name is Twinzie –she’s having twins!) and her double sonogram photos. As we were scrolling through the photos we stumbled on this photo:
Then this photo:
His mom: “Aw, that’s so exciting for your friend” (Didn’t get it)
My mother: “Aaaaw Lindsey! That’s so nice!” (Didn’t get it)
My dad: (Scrolls by both pictures. I scroll back to them. He scrolls by again. I scroll back again) I saw that already! (Didn’t get it)
Me: It’s not Lindsey’s it’s ours!
**Screaming, crying, hugging**
Our Friends:
There was no way our friends wouldn’t figure out something was up if I was getting sick or slacking on the slopes. If they weren’t going to figure it out from that, they’d know when I would refuse all cocktails and ask them not to smoke ANYWHERE near me. Or the fact that I wanted to put ketchup on EVERYTHING. They figured it out on their own.
Our extended family:
Everyone gathers at my grandparents’ house every Sunday. It’s an Italian thing 😉 We’re all very close. I couldn’t tell them over the phone. I wanted to tell everyone in person (and if I called one aunt before the other, I was going on somebody’s naughty list). Just to keep it fair, everyone found out at once. I showed my grandparents photos of our Utah Ski Trip. The last photo was our ultrasound picture. Everyone went CRAZY!
Our nieces and nephew:
Our youngest niece love to play guess who. She picks a person and everyone asks questions to figure out who. We thought we’d make it fun for them so we wrote this on our chalkboard wall:
It took them a few minutes to notice it, but as soon as they did the game started. There were some funny guesses! Rocco, a goldfish, a doll… They asked if the person was in the room and we said yes. They finally guessed it. The girls were jumping up and down so excited! The oldest, our nephew is 12. He’s learning about where babies come from in health class. He went into a whole “lesson” on conception and fetal development. LOL! We had to cut him off shortly after his lesson started. Little ears don’t need to know certain things 🙂 It was really funny.

Everyone is volunteering now, hopefully they’ll still want to when the baby is in its terrible 2 stage lol!

Congrats! It looks like you are about one week ahead of me in your pregnancy. I love reading about others symptoms and cravings!
My nausea also started around week 6 and it was 24 hours a day. I’m a teacher so you can imagine how well that went over. I found myself running from my classroom a few too many times. I still haven’t told my students, but I’m sure they know something is up! I was spared from having too much fatigue. I have been going to bed earlier, but haven’t been tired during the day. Been keeping up my workouts which also seems to help.
My food aversions were too everything sweet…which is funny because I normally have a sweet tooth. I laughed at your picture of ketchup. I have been putting it on everything! The only tip I’ve learned so far is that bananas are natural acid reducers and help with heartburn.
Congratulations!!! I’m a teacher also. I’m waiting until the kids start whispering about my growing belly hee hee. It soulnds like we are having very similar symptoms! At least we know we aren’t alone with our ketchup love! Keep coming back! I’d love to hear how you’re doing.
