You know I can’t recap a vacation without gushing over the food. I’m not quite sure what happened on this particular trip, but “health food” was a mythical notion. I need my arteries scraped out. Having said that, I can now blab about how insanely indulgent and delicious the food was!!! I won’t get into discussing the pint of cookies & cream ice cream I almost polished off on the last night, or the disastrous chocolate chip cookies I made that ended up being chocolate chip butter crepes. Nope, not a word.
Since there were 12 of us in the house, most of the nights one or two of us cooked dinner for everyone. Our first night, we all went food shopping. I did my happy dance when I saw this display of Cadbury Mini Eggs. They were calling my name! I am drooling as I type this.
The house rule was “Whoever cooks, doesn’t clean.” I love this rule. It should become a law. Just sayin’. One night, my friend Kelly made chilli. Another night, Tara & Jake made tacos with all of the taco toppings you can imagine. On my night, I made baked mac & cheese. I used the this recipe from when I made my mac & cheese cups. tripled the recipe and right before the baking step, I split it into 3 large glass dishes. One was the original recipe. The 2nd dish, I added chopped up bacon, and the 3rd, a can of chopped jalepenos (drained). It was a big hit!
Another night, a few of us hopped in our rental car and headed to Park City for a nice dinner out. We went to Purple Sage. The main street in Park City is quaint and cozy. It’s lit up with Chinese lanterns and Christmas lights. I don’t have a clear photo because my tour guide/ models wouldn’t stay still. You get the idea right?
It is a pretty small restaurant, but this created a more private experience. There were sheer lavender panels separating each booth.
The photos don’t do this place justice. ambiance isn’t the word. Check out the sparkling icicles hanging from the branches!
Jim Nanz was at the table across from ours (Mr. FSL is a sports buff and was very excited). We were so loud and obnoxious, his lady-friend had to move her seat to his side of the booth 😛
We ordered scallops and some kind of blue cheese fondue as an appetizer. It came with fresh bread, pears, carmelized walnuts, and beef tips for dunking. This was annihilated in like 5 minutes flat.
Each person ordered something different, and we all shared. Meet B.G. He likes large bone-in ribeye steak.
It was a great meal.
At Brighton Ski Resort, there is a lodge called Molly’s. We ate nachos, burgers, and french onion soup. I didn’t take a picture of the food because I was way too excited about the huge Mardi Gras moose head.
On Friday we went back to The Shooting Star Saloon. It happens to be the oldest saloon in Utah. Hear about my first experience here from last year’s trip by clicking here. I ate a mini-star burger. There was nothing mini about it. It’s a cheeseburger with a split knockwurst on top of it. It’s massive, and I was ready for another. By way of a sheer miracle and after heavy debate, I did not order the second one. About 2o minutes later, my stomach was so full, it looked like I was 6 months pregnant with a food baby. Unbutton the top button. Good call. Here’s a sexy shot from last year’s episode.
What are your thoughts on food when traveling? Do you splurge or stay on the healthy straight and narrow? Can you tell I’ve discovered the speech bubble sticker on picnik.com and am loving it? Let’s talk it out.
