I’m going to preface this post by saying that I don’t knit. Well, I never knitted before. I have the attention span of a gnat and the patience of a 3-year-old in line at an ice cream shop in July.
I am also a compulsive Pineterst addict (see for yourself by clicking here). I justify my addiction with actually making some of the projects that I pin. This explains the abundance of baked goods floating around my kitchen and spray painted objects on my shelves. Admitting the problem is the first step right?
Somebody needs to help me.
I. Can’t. Stop. Making. These.
I mean how many freaking scarves does one person need? A lot. That’s how many. I mean winter is practically here. The crafts store has had Christmas decorations up since July. So technically I have some catching up to do.
I pinned this video a while back, and decided it was time to make this happen. So I did. Again and again and again. I even have the bathroom selfie shots to prove it. Shameless I tell ya.This girl in the video is a great teacher. Very detailed and clear instructions. My 11-year-old niece made one without any major issues.
Here’s the YouTube video…
Here’s the link to her blog 🙂 http://www.thekurtzcorner.com/2013/09/arm-knitting-diy-30-minute-infinity.html
**update**
There is a striped arm knit tutorial up on the same blog! Check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmFP_3M0ObE
I swear, this was a breeze once I got into a rhythm. I know I said it earlier, but I am not a knitter or know how to crochet or anything like that. After I finished one and saw that it didn’t look like a huge knot, and actually like a scarf I was psyched! I wore it to work and my coworker was like “Wow that scarf is beautiful! Where did you buy it?” I was all
Hand made holiday gifts for everyone!

So cool and it looks so easy!! Can’t wait to try this. Heard about this idea before – kids can easily do it. Thanks for sharing!
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
Hey Maria! Thanks for stopping by. I attempted this with my nieces that are pretty crafty and they had a tough time starting it, but once they got going it was simple. If you’re doing this with kids, have them do a few test runs first.
tia says
Love how they look on you! I think I may end up getting stuck inside lol!!
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
Lol
Liz says
Your video is so explicit and clear i watched it, THEN grabbed the yarn, and made my first scarf in about 20 minutes without having to rewatch it (only did 6 rings and didnt infinitize it). I wish all instruction vids were as clear as yours! Great job! All my coworkers will be getting these for xmas!
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
Hi Liz!
I wish it was my video. This was from another blog. I should have credited her better. I thought the name appeared on her YouTube page. I’m glad your scarf was a success!!
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
Hey Liz! Thanks for stopping by the blog 🙂 This isn’t my video. I didn’t do a great job giving the credit to the maker of the vid. Glad you enjoyed it though!! Happy scarving 🙂 🙂
ashley@ design build love says
Those are awesome!!!! I’ve definitely pinned it to my gift board for the holidays, and now I’m eager to see if I get ambitious enough to tackle it!!!! 🙂 Thanks for sharing gorgeous! I miss following your blog desperately!
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
These don’t take long once you get the hang of it!! Glad you popped in to say hello 🙂 Hope you’re enjoying your pregnancy!
Christine says
Wow! A craft project even the crafty-challenged like me can handle!
Awesomeness. Thank you. I haven’t made a homemade gift for anyone since I was a little kid. 🙂
michelle@decorandthedog says
These are cute!!! I should try this and maybe I’d actually finish a scarf unlike traditional knitting. ;P
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
I don’t have the patience or skill for real knitting. I have the attention span of a five year old. This was juuuust right.
Lisa says
Nice!!! I love these !
Carolyn swaney says
OMG can’t wait to make 9!
Alyssa says
I absolutely loved this! and the video was so clear! the only part I was confused about while watching the video was when you run out of the first roll of yarn, how do you transition to the second one?
Mandy says
You use both rolls of yarn at the same time. Do you mean if one roll of yarn isn’t long enough? LOL I don’t know, buy more and tie it together in a knot?
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
Yes. Two skeins at once lol!
Victoria Martin says
😉 To cool!! I love this what great gifts for Christmas!!
Thanks for a great lesson!!
gail kragthorpe says
Hi, I have a question…How long do you make the infinity scarf??? thank you!
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
I didn’t measure. I just kept checking by wrapping it around my neck until it was the length I wanted it.
Kim says
A self-professed Pinterest addict as well, I just made one of these infinity scarves this past weekend, using the same instructional video. Once I got the “casting on” part done, the rest was a complete breeze! I am so excited to give this scarf to my niece as a Christmas gift and guaranteed no one in my family will believe I actually made it as I completely fail as knitting 🙂 I encourage anyone to make at least one…but bet they won’t stop there!
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
Yes! I am giving these as gifts too! Casting was definitely the hard part. I also had a bit of trouble attaching the ends.
Kyla pye says
Great video! I was just wondering how you hide the ends for just a regular scarf? Thanks 🙂
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
I haven’t made a plain scarf yet. I’m sorry! I am not sure. Maybe make some fringe!
Kaitlin De Vor says
Definitely thinking about making this. I was going to buy a chunky scarf but this video makes it look very easy to make and much cheaper. You mentioned how many you stitch across but you didn’t mention how many rows you stitch down. if you could let me know what would be great! thanks for this awesome video!
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
I didn’t count, but I kept wrapping it around me until I reached the desired length.
Maggie says
The lighter blue scarf looks like the knit is looser than the others. Did you do this by using thinner yarn then the video?
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
Yes, the scarf with thinner yarn looks very different, cheaper. I love the chunky yarn. I won’t be using thin yarn again for this.
Keisha says
I actually like the thinner one. Did you use regular yarn?
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
Yes the thin one was made using plain old yarn.
Katy says
Lovely!
Kim@NewlyWoodwards says
This is adorable! I love the colors and the style of this.
Such a great gift idea, too!
cassie says
so cute! one of these days i will learn to finger knit!
Amanda says
Hi! I was doing so well thanks to your video but came across a big problem in my yarn.. At least I don’t know if it’s a problem..at one point in one of my skeins, the yarn splits in two!! It appears to be knotted then splits ok two separate strings that don’t look like they are each just half of the string, they look like two separate strings. What is this????? What am I supposed to do? Do I put them together as if they are one? Or is that the kther end of my skein? I’m so confused.. I have a picture but can’t seem to post it here 🙁
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
Uh oh! I’m sorry!!! I am soooo not a yarn pro. If I were you, I’d choose the longer end and cut off the short one & hope for the best. *fingers crossed for you*
Destiny says
Hey you were on HGTV, House hunters. LOL
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
I wish I was! If you know somebody at HGTV, tell them to crash!!!
Amanda says
I got so fed up with the yarn I am going to just return those skeins.. Knotted together in a few places it was just a mess!! Finally almost done with my scarf but it looks super thick with 12 stitches across, almost like a blanket.. A small one. Haha did you do the whole 12 stitches? And then double it for an infinity scarf?? Yours looks awesome just trying to figure out if I should arop and do just one loop, or two around the neck lol.. I may do less stitches for my next scarves
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
I did like 6 stitches casted on my arm. The first one I made was like a blanket loop lol!
Amanda says
Yay!! I finally finished it last night!! Lol it was too big for my liking with 12 stitches like she does in the video. I did one with 8 stitches today in like 20 minutes and it’s much better! Next I’ll try 6 and I’m sure it’ll be perfect haha 🙂 thanks pretty girl!
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
YEAH! 6 stitches was perfect for what I was going for. I was wondering if the video meant 6 stitches because she says 12, but we’re using 2 skeins at once. I dunno lol!
Jen says
I can’t wait to try this! I have a question though, do you know approximately how much yarn you used? I know you use two skeins at once, but did you use all of the yarn on one scarf? Or would 2 skeins be enough to make 2 scarfs? Just trying to figure out how much yarn to get. Thanks!
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
You can get 2 thinner scarves from the skeins.
Brandy R says
Have you ever tried 2 different colors? Thought this would be good to wear to high school games using the school colors.
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
Yes!! Since this post, I have hosted a scarf night for my football playing nephew’s family! Green & yellow scarves were a big hit!!
Helena Lafond says
😀 😀 love it, wished i found this before now. will be makeing my besties these as late christmas pressie, great video x
Stephanie says
Hello! I love the bottom two thicker scarves you made! Which brand and what sizing did you use? Also what’s the material? Sorry, first time knitting (if this is what it’s called lol) so please help! Thanks! 🙂
Maria says
I finally made it!! I’ll post a pic to my Instagram account. You were so right – it’s insanely easy! The delay was due to 1) concerts and 2) frustration over not getting the casting on part. But after that it’s just a loop-de-loop game. I played with the ends to fasten them off …. nothing pretty, nothing fancy. But the thing is so cool – and so long lol – you don’t notice.
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
I saw it on Inst. Looks great!!!
zee says
can some one point me to the finger knit , i saw the arm knit one thanks
Sarah says
What brand of yarn did you use for the really dark infinity scarf that you made? The third picture. I love the color and the bulky-ness!
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
I am so sorry! I have no idea. I just found chunky yarn at Hobby Lobby. Nothing fancy. That was my favorite scarf too. I gave it to my best friend for her birthday 🙂
InfinityScarf says
Finger knit infinity scarf is one of the best kind of knitting. The blue infinity scarf was so beautiful – perfect for spring season, since its color is so lively. 🙂 Thanks for sharing the tutorial. 😉
Lindsey says
This is not an easy video to figure out. I’ve been watching just the first 9 min for 30 min now, continuously trying to rewind to see what you are doing. Perhaps go into more detail about what “holes” “loops” and sides of yarn you are using. I am going to search other tutorials because this one is not very ready. Also, another idea, use two different colors of yarn so that we can follow where the working and tail yarn pieces fall…
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
Hi Lindsey! Thanks for stopping by Finding Silver Linings. This video is a tutorial I found. I didn’t make it. I can say, however that it took me a few tries to get it right too. Keep at it & good luck 🙂
ann says
I have made two of these today. I am hooked (pun intended)! They are so easy to make (mine took an hour each to make). I will be making these for my loved ones. Thank you for the great tutorial video.
laura says
does anyone have a problem with having no tail left. am I doing something wrong?
Jenny says
How did you add the flower?? I love it.
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
Just pinned it on!
Jaci says
I keep running out of tail after my second knit! HELP, I have tried starting with a longer tail about 6 feet, still running out. 😕
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
I’d ask Audra Kurtz. It’s her youtube clip, she is definitely the pro to ask.
Lucy says
I love that blue scarf in the first picture! What yarn (brand, color) did you use to make that? Thanks!
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
I have no clue! I made it last year, I’m so sorry. Nothing fancy though.
Debra Smith (@Artgrl150) says
I love the Adele gif at the end, very cute! And I may actually try to make one of these. I am not crafty in the least, but it looks do-able even for me. Thanks!
