I’ve been wanting to do this post for months and thought I lost the photos I took during the last computer melt down. (Happy to report our computer is up and running!!) Well, it turned out that I have them stored on my memory card! YAY!
Without further delay, I give you the best party recipe known to man…
Hello class, today we will be learning how to make pudding shots.
Start by gathering your ingredients. This recipe will make about 30 shots. You will need :
1 cup of whipped cream vodka
1 cup milk
1 packet of pudding mix
1 tub of cool whip
canned whipped cream for garnish
any other garnishes you might want
SQUEEZABLE paper shot cups
***If you are making pistachio, only use 3/4 cup vodka and add 1/4 cup of Amaretto (garnish with whipped cream & crushed pistachio nuts) **
**********************************************
Make room in your fridge for the tray. Set up the cups on a baking sheet or tray. Be sure to do this first or the pudding will set up in the big bowl and you’ll make a huge mess. Trust me, I’ve done that.
Mix the milk, pudding packet, and vodka together in a bowl. Make sure it’s nice and smooth. Then, add in the cool whip. Stir until blended well.
Pour into cups using a tablespoon, or if you’re me, a cookie scoop. This part can get kind of messy.
Fill each cup almost to the top.
Lick the bowl and spoon thoroughly. This step is very important 😉 . Up until this point I was only making pistachio pudding shots (they were the only flavor pudding shot that I ever tried). After I lapped up every drop from the bowl, I found myself in the supermarket buying more cool whip to make more. I had a genius moment of tipsiness and reached for the oreo and coconut pudding mixes. Variety is the spice of life!
Pop into the fridge. They should be ready fairly quickly (like 25 minutes or so) but you can keep them in the fridge for a day if you need to.
Right before serving, top each cup with a squirt of whipped cream and your garnish of choice.
I used Oreo pudding and garnished them with crushed oreos. This was the first flavor to get gobbled up. They were amazing.
I also made coconut cream topped with toasted coconut, which were my favorite.
If you’re wanting to be the best guest ever to your holiday party, try these pumpkin spice or eggnog pudding shots!

This is definitely going on my to-do list!!

these look yummy going to try this weekend, how many servings do you get from a batch?.Thanks
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
About 30 🙂
Mary says
Thanks,
I know the whipped cream goes on before serving but how far in advance can the pudding shots be made?
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
I make them the day before. Pudding tends to get that weird “skin” on it after a few days.
Kathy Rusinoski says
Ewwwwh…Chemical shots. Yuck…you need to investigate the ingredients of Instant pudding, Cool Whip (What is Cool Whip?????) Not a food from nature a chemical creation…and imitation whipped cream vodka????? What a sin!
How about pudding you have to stir to thicken i.e. Old Fashioned Pudding…How about REAL whipped Cream and Real Vodka with NO imitation flavoring…
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
I think that the original recipe calls for instant because some of the alcohol burns off when it’s heated (kind of like what happens when you make vodka sauce). You can use whatever whipped topping you’d like I’m sure. You can also use whatever liquor you’d prefer. I like the flavor of whipped cream vodka in these shots. I never had any complaints from people that have tried this recipe. This is just the way I make them. Good luck with your shots 🙂

oh good god… did you KNOW it was my birthday or something! And whipped cream vodka… WHAT?!?!? Never heard of it before this!
michelle@decorandthedog says
How is it that I attended two universities and have never heard of pudding shots? Good-bye Jell-o. 😛

How fun and bet tasty!!!!

That sounds good! I will definitely give it a try the next time I have a party!. 🙂

Also very versatile because you can adapt it to any occasion by virtue of added ingredients — chopped toasted almonds or pistachios shaved chocolate chocolate curls toasted coconut or maraschino cherries on top.

Mindy…they ALL were DELICIOUS!!!!!!! Please let me know next time you make them!
Dawn says
I made the pistachio ones and they turned out awesome. At first I was a little worried as I thought the mix was a bit runny when I filled the cups and it did take quite a while for mine to set, so by the next morning, they were good to go. I was a little impatient and made a second batch and used less alcohol and a bit more of the pudding, those turned out good too, but by the time they were set, could have used a bit more booze. 🙂 All in all, they were a hit at the party I went to, I kept hearing people say, god those are good!! 🙂 Didn’t have time to take pics, but look about the same as the ones above. I switched up the garnishes using crumbled oreos, graham crackers and darker green sugar sprinkles.
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
Awesome! So glad they turned out well, Dawn 🙂

Did you thaw the whipped topping first? I bought mine and made right away and it made a huge mess when it flopped in the mixture and it was a little difficult to mix. Waiting for them to set up now. I used cheesecake pudding then mixed a little grenadine in the last bit of mixture and layered it on top. Can’t wait to try.
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
Yes. Topping has to be a little soft. I also used an electric hand mixer to get it smooth. Wow! I love the cheesecake idea!!!

k thanks

Mindy—LOVE the pudding shots idea……only where did you find the pleated cups that you put the shots in??? I found plastic ones at the local liquor store…but the paper pleated would be so much easier to ‘inject’ into your mouth…. appreciate your help!
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
The plastic cups are a no-no unless you find mini plastic spoons. I got the paper cups at a local party store. Good luck!
Laura says
Publix grocery store have pleated cups. Pudding shots are awesome!
Kimberly says
I use a mini muffin pan (24) and put my 1 once cups in it, and I also pour my mixture into ziplock bags, and then snipe a corner and fill my cups that way. EASY!
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
Sweet! Thanks for the tip Kim!
Eryn says
I have been wanting to try these. I had these at a party last week garnished with mini M and Ms. Yum! Is it instant pudding that you use? So, I don’t need to follow the pudding recipe on the package. Just throw it all in and mix together and then mix in cool whip? Do you use wooden spoon or mixer? Thank you!
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
Yup! Love the idea of mini M&M’s too!
Jennifer Dahlke says
As mentioned above, we’ve always mixed in a ziploc bag as well and then snip the corner. Then, if you don’t want to use the whole bag right away use a chip-clip to resell the bag (I use the pampered chef chip clips, they seal great), then put it in the freezer to save.
Also, cheesecake pudding and cherry doctor=AMAZING 🙂

Woah! I love that you save it! Um, cheesecake pudding shots?! Sounds like I know what I’m making this weekend!! Thanks for the inspiration 🙂
chris says
How long can they stay in the freezer without losing flavor or going bad?
Mindy@FindingSilverLinings says
Definitely a few days. Don’t garnish with whipped cream until right before serving though. Enjoy!
